Silvia Semenzin
Research-based Activist
Silvia is an Italian activist, author, and scholar renowned for her work on online gender-based violence. Currently, she works as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Complutense University of Madrid, researching digital rights and technology-facilitated gender-based violence, with a particular emphasis on platform affordances and their entanglement with gender performance.
In 2018, she launched the campaign "Intimità Violata," which successfully led to the criminalization of image-based sexual abuse in Italy, showcasing her ability to translate research into actionable projects.
In 2021, she co-authored the book "Donne Tutte Puttane: Revenge Porn e Maschilità Egemone" (Durango Edizioni) with Lucia Bainotti, a digital ethnography exploring Telegram chats and groups that spread image-based sexual abuse.
She has collaborated with several international institutions, such as the European Commission, the European Institute for Gender Equality, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, and the White House, among others.
