Irakli Khvadagiani
Chairman of the Board of the Laboratory of the Soviet Past
Irakli is a researcher and the chairman of the board of the Laboratory of the Soviet Past (Sovlab). He is also an invited lecturer at Ilia State University, where he teaches courses on the processes and archival practices related to Georgia’s recent history.
Irakli's research focuses on the social and political developments of the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century, including the domestic politics of the First Republic of Georgia, the Soviet Russian occupation, and the Georgian resistance movement. He also studies the history of Georgian political emigration, the special services of the Soviet Russian totalitarian system, Soviet national policies, Georgia’s era of stagnation, the dissident movement in Georgia, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Georgia’s transition process.
