Introduction to R
Valeria Babayan
PhD Researcher at Trinity College Dublin and
Project Analyst at Open Data Armenia
This hands-on 1.5 hours workshop is designed for beginners who want to start using R in their Data Analysis tasks. R is a perfect open-source and flexible solution specifically designed tailored for Data Analysis both in academia and industry, with a large professional community and an extensive variety of built-in and user-generated packages for streamlining the solution of statistical tasks. Participants will explore the opportunities R provides and learn the basics of its syntax and experiment with data manipulation, cleaning, and visualization. By the end of the session, attendees will have the tools to independently perform exploratory data analysis and create simple visualizations.
Bring a laptop with pre-installed R (https://cran.r-project.org/) and RStudio Desktop (https://posit.co/downloads/) to save workshop time for more interesting activities.

Foreign Accent Conversion
Stepan Sargsyan
Chief Scientist & ML Architect at Krisp
This talk explores the machine learning (ML) challenge of foreign accent conversion (FAC), a special speech processing problem, within the context of real-time applications. Stepan Sargsyan provides a concise introduction to core ML concepts, highlighting its role in speech processing. A brief overview of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques for audio manipulation is also included. The session then delves into established FAC approaches, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses, particularly regarding their suitability for real-time scenarios. This analysis highlights the critical limitations of high parameter counts and extensive algorithmic lookahead that impede practical implementation. Stepan proposes a novel FAC solution specifically designed to address these limitations, enabling real-time operation. His approach prioritizes efficient parameter usage and restricted algorithmic lookahead, making it suitable for resource-constrained environments. Finally, the talk establishes objective evaluation metrics for FAC tasks and presents the performance results achieved by the model.
